Barber-led salon·Market Street, Heywood·Est. 2012
Two chairs.
One for talking,
one for quiet.
Blackthorn & Co. is a barber-led salon on Market Street, Heywood. Precise cuts, expert beard work and proper hot-towel shaves. Say which chair you want when you book, or just turn up and we’ll read the room.
A neighbourhood shop that takes the craft seriously.
Tony opened on Market Street in 2012, after fifteen years in shops where you got the same cut and the same conversation whether you wanted either. Blackthorn runs differently. We ask how you want it before we start, and that goes for the talking as much as the hair.
Every cut comes two ways. The quiet chair, or the chatty one. Same price, your call, and no need to explain yourself.

In their words
I walked in on a wet Tuesday not really knowing what I wanted. Tony talked it through at the mirror first, took his time over the cut, then finished with a hot towel that nearly sent me to sleep. I left forty minutes later with the sharpest fade I've had, and it still looked right a fortnight on. Not had a bad one since.
I asked for the quiet chair on a rough week and Callum just nodded and got on with it. No small talk, no awkwardness, and the best fade I've had. Being able to ask for that without it being weird is the whole reason I switched.
Booked a hot towel shave for my dad's 60th and the whole visit felt like a treat. Callum took his time and talked him through every step, and Dad has not stopped raving about it since. We have both switched over for good.
First haircut for our four-year-old and I had braced myself for tears. Marcus let him hold the clippers first, talked him through the buzzing, and had it done in about eight minutes. He asked to go back the following week.

Good to know
Do I need to book, or can I walk in?
Both work. We keep a few chairs for walk-ins each day, though weekends and Thursday and Friday evenings get busy, so booking online guarantees your time and your barber.
Do you cut women's and children's hair?
Absolutely. We're barber-led but everyone's welcome. Priya handles women's cuts, colour and blow-dries, and the whole team is brilliant with little ones.
Where can I park?
There's pay-and-display parking on Market Street and the free Sutcliffe Street car park is a two-minute walk. Heywood bus interchange is just around the corner.
How should I pay?
Cash, card and contactless all work here, including Apple Pay and Google Pay. Tips are always appreciated but never expected.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
We do. A hot-towel shave makes a cracking gift, so pop in or mention it when you book and we'll sort a voucher for any service or amount.
What's the quiet chair?
Some days you want a chat, some days you just want to switch off. Tell us "quiet chair" when you book, or the chatty one if you fancy the banter. Same cut, same price, no awkwardness either way.
Grab your chair at Blackthorn & Co.
Tell us what you're after and when suits, and we'll confirm by text. Prefer to talk? Give the shop a ring on 01706 555 019 and we'll help you pick a service or a barber.
